Dr. Kiran received his BE degree from Kuvempu University in 2000, M.Tech and Ph. D degree in computer Science and Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University in the year 2003 and 2014 respectively. Accomplished career as a professor with more than 19 years of experience in teaching engineering students at the UG and PG levels. He is currently working as a professor and the head in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. His research area focuses on Cryptography, Randomization, Anonymization methods in generalization, Indexing techniques and design patterns. More than 26 research articles have been presented and published at international conferences and journals and currently guiding four Research Scholars. Academic experience includes as Professor, Research Supervisor, BOE Member, placement coordinator. His industry interaction includes - Coordinator for the Campus Connect program in collaboration with Infosys, Trainer for Wipro Wase, BITS Bengaluru off-campus Trainer and Worked as a Trainer on Unix & Shell scripting for CDAC, Bengaluru
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Stepping into 20th year of academic excellence in the year 2021, the department of Computer Science and Engineering has grown leaps and bounds by the blessings of our beloved chairman Dr. R N Shetty and guidance from Principal Dr. M K Venkatesha. Department was established in the year 2001 right from the inception of the institution with the objective to impart quality technical education in IT field. Department is also proud to share that it has been accredited by NBA [twice in the year 2011 and 2014 for 3 years]as it follows quality process to groom students to be industry ready and also encourages them to take up higher studies. Department is one of the highly sought after in the campus because of its performance in the University results, achievements in placements and paid internships. The department currently offers Undergraduate degree with intake of 180, Postgraduate degree with the intake of 18 and houses VTU recognized R&D center [estd.2009] where 20 scholars are pursuing their research and 14 scholars have been awarded the degree so far. Department has constituted Center of Excellence in Machine Learning to progress itself to the rapid advancements in various specialized fields. Department boasts to share that it has conducted 32 FDPs, 3 International Conferences and over 200 invited talks for the benefit of faculties and students.
Department is striving hard in realizing the vision of the institution by accomplishing the vision of the department by promoting excellence in teaching and covering the fundamentals of computer science.

BEST STUDENT PROJECT
The department encourages the students to participate in technical Expo/Project showcasing event (Project Open House Panorama- PROP) conducted by the department. The evaluation committee consists of industry experts, academia expert and internal experts. The best project will be selected by said evaluation team based on Originality, Organization of Project report, Technical Content ( Significant Contributions), Presentation, Relevance and Clarity of drawings, graphs and tables, Experimental Results / Discussions, Clarity in Language and References ( adequacy and correct citation)

Objectives of CENTER OF EXCELLENCE Recent years have seen a dramatic increase of research in the area of Machine Learning. The Applications based on Machine Learning are becoming more and more integrated in our daily lives. So, in order to meet the current and future demands of the industry, mainly in the area of Machine Learning, The ‘Centre of Excellence in ML’ provides students training and project based learning which can helps them in their career be it professional or research. The activities of the centre will be focused towards the areas of Image Processing, Language Processing ,Object detection, Crowd detection, etc

Research Projects Completedunder VTU / AICTE Research Grants:
- 3.8 Lakhs for the research project entitled Diagnosis Tool for Assessment of Lung Nodules that helps in Analyzing Tumors with the aid of CT Image Databases using CBIR Techniques under VTU Research Grants Scheme, for a period of 2 years . Ref: VTU/Aca/2011-12/A-9/844 dated 8 May 2012.
- 5.2 Lakhs for the research project entitled System for Image Retrieval from Medical Image Databases by associating Content and Semantic of Images , under AICTE Research Grants Scheme, for a period of 2 years during April 2012.
